What happened to CozZo
By its makers' own account, the service ended because the cloud infrastructure that supported it was being shut down, not because they chose to walk away from it. They responded generously: a farewell version with every premium feature unlocked, supported through December 30, 2025. As of September 2026, the app is no longer available on the US App Store.
Their goodbye note was warm to the end.

Where Kepta stands
Kepta is a kitchen inventory and food-waste app for iPhone. It is in App Store review right now, so you can't download it yet. Everything in the CozZo column below comes from CozZo's own website, and every comparison is accurate as of September 2026.

Your food inventory Covered
One inventory from fridge to pantry, tracking "Best By" and "Use By" dates for all foods.
Fridge, freezer, and pantry, plus custom places you name yourself. Instead of typed package dates, every item gets a freshness color from a USDA-researched shelf-life database, relative to that food's own shelf life.
Household sharing Covered
Up to 10 household members with real-time sync of products, inventory, and shopping lists, part of the paid Household Account.
Family sharing is free. One 6-character invite code, like ABC-123, puts your household in the same kitchen. Items, the list, and the money numbers stay in sync for everyone.
Expiry warnings Different
"Best By" and "Use By" tracking that helped you decide whether food had to be binned.
A daily reminder that names the actual items to use soon, plus freshness colors on every row. You never type dates: Kepta estimates from what the food is and where it lives. It's quality guidance, not safety advice, and it says so.
Recipes from what you have Covered
AI matching of recipe ingredients to the products in your stock, part of the Household Account.
A Cook tab of roughly 80 recipes ranked by what's already in your kitchen, with expiring food boosted to the top and YouTube videos to cook along. Free.
Shopping lists Different
Three lists free; the subscription unlocked unlimited lists.
One shopping list, grouped by aisle, that converts straight into your kitchen with prices as you buy. Nothing on it is capped, but it is one list, not several.
Leftovers Covered
Leftovers listed in the meal planner and tracked for freshness.
Log leftovers in a tap and watch their freshness like any other item. Homemade meals are counted as dishes, never fake dollar estimates, and restaurant leftovers keep their real cost.
Barcode scanning Not Yet
A scanner that recognized over half a billion products, including package sizes and photos.
Not yet. Adding food is fast type-ahead with smart guesses for category, place, and price, but there is no scanner in the launch version. Barcode scanning comes later.
Receipt scanning Not Yet
A receipt reader that pulled purchased items from up to 5 receipts at once.

Beyond the kitchen Different
Seven extra space types: cupboards, storage room, medicine box, bathroom.
Kepta is food only, on purpose. Custom places are all kinds of fridge, freezer, or pantry, because the freshness engine is built for food. If you tracked your medicine box in CozZo, Kepta won't replace that.

Why free matters more after a shutdown
CozZo's makers said the ending was out of their hands: the infrastructure it ran on was shut down. But if you subscribed to the Household Account, the service you were paying for is gone now, and that stings. No app can honestly promise you forever, and Kepta won't pretend to.
What it can tell you plainly: everything on this page ships free. The inventory, the sharing, the recipes, the reminders, and the money numbers are all uncapped, with no ads and no tracking. You're not being asked to bet a subscription on a stranger's app while you're still deciding whether to trust one again.
The short verdict: Kepta covers the heart of what CozZo did, free, and is plain about what it doesn't do yet.
