Kepta Privacy Policy
Updated October 24, 2026: Kepta checks every account's Plus status with RevenueCat, and Kepta Plus has no Family Sharing
Kepta is a kitchen inventory and food waste app made and run by Effort Zero, LLC ("we" and "us" on this page). Effort Zero is John Sands's company, and the App Store lists Kepta under his name as the seller. This page explains what information the app handles and what happens to it. The short version: your data is yours, it exists so the app can work for you, and you can erase all of it whenever you want.
What we collect
Two kinds of information come from you, and a third is kept for every account so Kepta Plus can work:
- Your email address and password, used to create and sign in to your account. Your password is handled by our authentication provider and is never visible to us.
- The content you enter: food items, shopping list entries, leftovers, recipes you write or mark as cooked, and your waste log, including any prices you type in.
- Kepta Plus status and purchase records. Each time Kepta opens, it asks RevenueCat whether your account has Plus, using a random account ID. If you open the upgrade screen or buy Plus, RevenueCat also keeps those records. The next section explains exactly what these are.
Kepta Plus purchases
Kepta Plus is an optional paid upgrade. Apple handles the payment. Your card and billing details stay with Apple. We never see them, and neither does anyone else we work with.
To know whether your account has Plus, Kepta uses a service called RevenueCat. RevenueCat processes purchase records for us, under our instructions. Here is what it receives:
- A random account ID. This is the same ID Kepta already uses for your account inside our database. It is not your name, your email address, or your Apple Account. It is how Plus follows you to every device you sign in to.
- Your purchase history for Kepta Plus: which plan you chose, its price and currency, when it started, renews, or ends, whether you are in a free trial, and Apple's transaction numbers for it.
- What happens on the upgrade screen, such as when it was shown or closed and which plan was tapped. We use this to see whether the screen is clear.
- Basic technical details that come with every request, such as your iOS version, the app version, your App Store country, and, as with any online service, the internet address the request came from.
RevenueCat never receives your email address, your password, or anything you type into your kitchen. We use these records only to unlock Plus, restore it when you ask, and understand how many people choose each plan. They are not used for advertising, not used to track you across other apps or websites, and not sold.
You can read RevenueCat's privacy policy and Apple's privacy policy.
Where it lives
Your account and kitchen data are stored in a secured cloud database (Supabase) so they can sync to your device. Access is restricted so that each account can only read and write its own household's data. Kepta Plus purchase records are kept by Apple and RevenueCat, as described above.
What we do not do
- No advertising and no ad networks
- No tracking across other apps or websites
- No analytics, cookies, or tracking scripts on the kepta.kitchen website
- No selling of your information. Inside the app, the outside companies that handle it are Supabase (your account and kitchen data) and RevenueCat (Kepta Plus purchase records), plus Apple for payments, and they handle it only to run Kepta. The kepta.kitchen website is hosted by Cloudflare, which sees the basic details every web request carries, such as your internet address, to deliver pages and block attacks. Emails to support@kepta.kitchen are delivered through Google Workspace.
- No collection of your location, contacts, or photos
- No access to your payment card or bank details. Apple handles every payment.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Kepta schedules reminders on your device about food that needs attention. These are generated locally from your own data.
Deleting your data
Open Settings inside the app and choose Delete Account. This permanently erases your account and your kitchen data from our database, with no waiting period. If you share a kitchen, it stays for the other members, and the items you added are no longer linked to you.
If you have Kepta Plus: deleting your account does not cancel a subscription, because Apple bills it. Cancel it on your iPhone in Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions. Your purchase record at RevenueCat is tied only to the random account ID above. Email us and we will delete it from RevenueCat as well. Apple keeps its own record of the purchase under Apple's privacy policy.
A note on shelf life dates
Freshness colors and dates in Kepta are quality guidance to help you plan meals. They are not food safety advice.
